Get The Covid Vaccine Sooner

Posted by

I don’t know about you, but Zoom fatigue is real, and online rituals are a drag.

Every day, vaccines are thawed and prepared for a specific number of people, but there are no-shows. Those extra vaccines might be available for people who can show up on short notice.

More details about the program here.

You can sign up for vaccine stand-by at www.hidrb.com

  1. Thank you for posting this, I hadn’t heard about the last-minute shot options. I’ve shared this info where I can. (I’m two days out from my two-weeks-post-second-shot, myself, and I keep looking around for a piano to fall on my head just when safety is so close.)

This has been a hell of a year and change to get into *waves* all this, and I’m looking forward to being able to actually meet up with folks, shoot the shit, ask questions, experiment… Your blog has raised as many questions for me as it has answered, which is pretty wonderful, actually, a good question and a good answer are two great and distinctly different pleasures and I’m not sure which I like more, but I wish I had more folks to discuss things with. Everyone just seems (understandably) too wiped right now, and the groups I’ve reached out to have been in stasis, if not actually defunct, even in the Bay Area, even online. Hopefully we all, all over, get vaccinated swiftly, and have a summer full of healthy backyard and park get-togethers.

  2. I have recently found your blog and have been enjoying it very much! Especially your descriptions/interactions with Hermes. I’m not in any religious community or anything – I’m just exploring it a little bit. I hope all is still well with you!

  3. Hi Thenea, I know you’ve slowed down on this blog and I totally respect that (congrats on becoming a mom too <3). I do miss your excellent and thoughtful posts though!

Lately Hekate has been making Her Presence very insistently known, especially as I'm going through a spiritual death/ego death process. Hekate has been coming to me (dreams, markings on my body, weird stuff) for over a year, but I never really invoked Her until this past month. She is VERY wonderful and kind…and so aggressively protective!

I was wondering if you'd ever consider writing a bit more about your Hekate UPG, or even publishing a book about your Hekate praxis. There are a LOT of writings on Hekate out there, but your thoughts have always resonated with me. We have the same ethics and the same standards/expectations of deity behavior, etc.

I mean…I did notice that She is very, very protective and fierce, but ultimately the way I experience Her has a lot more similarities with your UPG than other stuff I read online.

I also have no idea how to really approach Her since I'm only trained in traditional Hindu Tantra. I am sure the cardinal directions, the elements, etc are all different in Greek magic. Like, I'm trained to face either north or east for most rituals, but I don't think the directions are worked the same way for Greek deities. I really want to respect Her culture and Her form of magic.

    1. I’m non-binary, so parent, not mom, but thanks!

My sources for Hekate are mainly the ancient primary source texts, many of which can be found online.

One interesting question to ask is why she’s approaching you. If your “home base” tradition was a problem for her, she probably would not have. I find that, as a deity of magic, she’s quite flexible about how she’s called. Indeed, I know of *very few* traditional practitioners of Hellenismos who work intensely with her. They exist, but my experience has been that discourse about her in recon groups tends to be quite thin.

Knowing her purpose in reaching out to you will help you to shape your practice with her appropriately.

My primary goal with this blog had always been to demonstrate the method by which praxis can be formed through deep reading of primary sources. My suggested approach is to generate personal practices through a balance of historical research and creativity. I got side-tracked into writing a lot of “omg wtf” articles, because I literally could not get over how absolutely horrid clergy could be to parishioners, or how utterly dedicated to controlling others through effectively libeling the gods they could be. I got side-tracked into writing about the basics of Hellenic practice because a side-purpose of this blog was compiling resources for my students, and they requested them.

Largely, I find the idea of writing again on any related topic quite daunting because my practice and understanding of magic, theurgy, and mysticism has evolved so much in such a short period of time that I wouldn’t even know how to begin to explain myself. What I’ve learned would be rather disturbing to most practitioners, and yet it would nonetheless have to inform every future thing I would write.

I do want to get back to writing about magic, but I’m not even sure where to start.

I have a tumblr (also magickfromscratch), and I do have AMA enabled, and answer questions submitted to me.

Sorry I could not be more helpful at this juncture.

      1. Thenea, thanks for the reply – I didn’t get a notification a reply was made, weird! And thanks for letting me know how to address you, sorry for that! Congrats on becoming a parent ^___^

I really appreciate this outlook on Hekate and how to approach Her. I hadn’t thought to ask Her why she was approaching me, and the worry about how to venerate Her properly was likely my anxiety talking. That really does help a lot.

I totally understand if you don’t feel like publishing books on your research and practice. Sometimes just digesting what we do know and experience is hard enough work. If writing books on magic/blogging ever calls you back, then I’m sure it’ll happen in a way that isn’t overwhelming or stressful. I do think your voice matters – you’re one of the most ethical magician bloggers I’ve seen around here.

I didn’t know you had a Tumblr, I’ll check it out!
