Strabo, Geography 10. 3. 10 :
“Now most of the Greeks assigned to Dionysos, Apollon, Hekate, the Mousai, and above all to Demeter, everything of an orgiastic or Bakkhic or choral nature, as well as the mystic element in initiations . . . And branch-bearing, choral dancing, and initiations are common elements in the worship of these gods.”
This is a really nice quote to have in mind when people attack other practitioners for their mystical, initiatory ways. Guess what, guys? This has always been a part of Hellenic faith. It’s one thing to decide that it’s not for you, but if you are throwing people under the bus for doing it, bear in mind which deities you are throwing under the bus along with them.
